Who Is A Damsel?

"Who is a damsel?" the now exceptionally beautiful damsel I've grown to address as my little sister asked with charm exhibiting itself through her smiles. Deelia is one shrewd girl I loved so much. I was a bit surprised when she asked me that question considering the fact that she is always disturbing her dictionary. "Is she kidding me? She don't know who a damsel is? Or she is just asking because of the title of my first book, Dear Damsel ?" I asked myself in thoughts as she looked on with an expectant expression. "According to the dictionary, a damsel is a young unmarried woman ", I replied her with a teasing smile. " Oh okay. You were the first person I heard that word from, that's why I decided to ask you. At least, now I know I am a damsel." She confessed. But the question is, does being an unmarried young woman make you a damsel? Well, its a yes according to language (dictionary) but in reality, being unmarried doesn't ...

Make A Soul Smile

It pays to make a soul smile, I tell you. Sometimes, the kind words we say, the little support we give, the love we share, the comfort we give, our effort to ease the pain others go through, our quest to make someone happy; goes a long way, a very long way to brighten up a life, save a soul or change lives in a way we never imagined. A friend, sibling, colleague or even a mere stranger, needs to smile everyday. Make it a priority to make at least a single soul smile each day. Any day Anytime Anywhere Make a soul smile It doesn't matter how Feed a tummy Ease a pain Say kind words Just do it anyway Brighten up a life ©Rachealwyettey

2018 Is Finally Here! Refire The Goals You Misfired

I'm glad we both arrived on this land known as 2018 and I specially welcome you. I know you've set entirely new dreams for this year and its my prayer that all of your dreams will become realities; every bit of them. However, I inspire you to refire the goals you misfired last year; you can't continue dreaming when we failed with living previous ones. Yes! Do well to ponder over the failed dreams, probe them further and figure out how best you can achieve them this time around. So while you focus on the new dreams, remember the old dreams you failed to achieve. Also, don't just dream, put on an extra effort to achieve them. I believe you will end this year with great celebration because of your achievements. You're blessed! Happy New Year!

December Is Here, What Next?

I'm glad you are excited December is finally here and I'm glad Grace brought you to the last month. But the question is, now that December is here, what next? 2017 has been a wonderful ride so far but how great your year was is determined by how it ended. This is why you have to make sure you make everyday of this month count, just to make your year a perfect one. The following are few ways to make your year amazing in this last month. Refire the goals you misfired . Before the year began, you had a lot of dreams you wanted to achieve before the year comes to an end but unfortunately there are some dreams that you failed to achieve. That is fine, it is never too late, you can achieve some this month. Refire the goals you misfired or take steps to achieve them in the coming year. Touch a life . This month, show love and support to those who need love and lack support. Say kind words, help when you can and do something to put a smile on a face. There's no better way...

Don't Shiver!

When you reach your hall That very hall of maximization You will fall Fall for transformation So when you fall Don't shiver Don't quiver Just stay calm In order to receive the balm So that your scar Can turn into a star The star that you are The star that shines Way beyond darkness Don't shiver When you fall When you fall Don't remain there Though the wound hurts Just apply the balm and Rise again Rise and take over ©Racheal Wyettey. This poem empowers you to rise up after falling. Its a reminder that falling is inevitable because its part of the transformation process. If you felt inspired, do share to inspire others. Comments are welcome.

Letter To My Dear Friend 2

Dear friend,  If you can’t PROMOTE me,  don’t DEMOTE me.  My mum once said,  “if you need promotion, join the ship of friendship, it is the only ship for true promotion.  This has opened my understanding to the truth that, friends are supposed to  promote  each other, not to  demote  each other. Friends are the only ones who are tasked to genuinely promote without any expectations of reward. Aside friends, anyone else who does that does it because of what they will get in return.  Unfortunately, this truth has been covered. Friends of today wishes the downfall of each other. Come to think of it, a friend who tries to bring you down, is that one too a friend? A friend who will only help you rise when she will benefit, is that one too a friend? A friend who will recognize the star in you but do nothing to let the world see but rather do unnecessary things like joking and gossiping with you, is that one too a friend? A friend who will wa...

Whatever Is Done In Love Is Done Well!

"Truth" is one thing can't be hidden and the truth is, "Whatever is done in love is done well".  Vincent Van Gogh said it right when he said, "Whoever loves much, performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well." He couldn't have said any better, and I wholeheartedly buttress him on that, as his quote isn't just deep or true, it as well practical, and most of us are living testimonies to that. Many at times, when we find ourselves doing things we are not passionate about, we don't do it well. Not because we can't do it well or don't want to do it well, but because we are not doing it with joy or with all our will. While in junior high school, I was well known for doing a number of things including reading, writing, reciting poems, dancing and acting. I was also known to be very good in art related subjects such as English Language and  Social Studies. I wasn't known for doing all these j...

Why I Love Spending Time Alone...

In today's world, spending time alone is a difficult task for most young people. We are either on the phone (social media), with friends or doing something entirely different. However, spending time alone is very essential and healthy, and I love doing it for numerous reasons.  One reason why finding solitude excites me is the fact that it aids me to get things done.  Yes, I get things done. Sometimes, the list of things I need to get done becomes longer and longer, and it seems the words are more the action. This is as a result of stress and pressure from people and daily activities. But when I am alone, I am able to figure out, write down, plan and actually get things done. It always works so to get things done I seek solitude. Whenever I spend time with myself, I have the freedom to be me, to think me and to do me.  There's no pressure on how well I perform and no instructions. My thoughts, ideas, words and all movements are totally free from those in my...

When Life Smiles At You...

So everyone encounters bad moments. Moments when life punches you with real hard blows; when it pours down storms or stones instead of rain; when the tears just can’t stop flowing and when your head can’t stop spinning. Yes, those moments are moments when life frowns at you and I mean real frown – one that hastens ageing. Trust me on this,  no one is an exemption when it comes to such moments. Everyone encounters it at least thrice in life. They get to that junction where all they feel like is giving up. Where their vision becomes blur, they become very weak and dark cloud is all that surrounds them. Where the only strength they think they have is one for giving up. If you ever find yourself in such a moment, tell me, will you return to where you started from,  remain where you’ve gotten to or keep moving towards your dreams?  Then again, wait a moment. There comes another hour in life when beautiful moments arrive – when you can’t stop smiling for a second. Yes,  th...
