Who Is A Damsel?

"Who is a damsel?" the now exceptionally beautiful damsel I've grown to address as my little sister asked with charm exhibiting itself through her smiles.

Deelia is one shrewd girl I loved so much. I was a bit surprised when she asked me that question considering the fact that she is always disturbing her dictionary. "Is she kidding me? She don't know who a damsel is? Or she is just asking because of the title of my first book, Dear Damsel?" I asked myself in thoughts as she looked on with an expectant expression.

"According to the dictionary, a damsel is a young unmarried woman", I replied her with a teasing smile.

" Oh okay. You were the first person I heard that word from, that's why I decided to ask you. At least, now I know I am a damsel." She confessed.

But the question is, does being an unmarried young woman make you a damsel? Well, its a yes according to language (dictionary) but in reality, being unmarried doesn't make you a damsel, at least not a true damsel.

The beauty of being a damsel is a package on its own and its accompanied by responsibilities: This is what I tried to make Deelia understand later on. Being a damsel is not just about bearing the title "miss" or "mademoiselle ", its about being "obaapa" as the *Akans* of Ghana will put it.

Being a damsel means having Eyes that charm, Heart that loves, Mind that defeats, Lips that sweeten, Body on fire, Spriti on fire, Soul on fire, Beauty drizzling everywhere, and Liberty unlimited.

A damsel is a young unmarried woman:

a. Who uses her beauty to brighten lives.
b. Who has accepted the responsibilities that accompany that stage of her life.
c. Who is in charge of her life.
d. Who is on fire for herself, the world and for God. 
e. Who is aware of and is able to use the power in her to make the world go round.
