5 Most Important Things I've Learnt About Volunteering

What is volunteering? According to Cecilia Acheampong, Volunteering is the act of offering yourself to undertake a service or a project with a deep passion towards that project. Read on as I disclose some of the things I've learnt about volunteering that I consider most important.

1. Everyone has something to offer.  One doesn't need to be young or old or rich or poor, before he or she can volunteer. When it comes to volunteering, the greatest requirement is passion and willingness, not qualifications or age range. As a volunteer, I've come to acknowledge the fact that volunteering has to do with "what you can offer" and not "what you can't offer". "...I believe everyone has something to offer when it comes to volunteering so don't underrate your ability." says Cecilia Acheampong. Subsequently, ranging from money down to skills, you can offer something.

2. You are able to impact lives. Do you know what it feels like to see a smile on someone's face knowing very well that you are behind it? If you don't, try volunteering; it gives you one of the best feelings in the world. You are able to share love, show support and impact lives.

3. You are introduced to numerous opportunities. "You won't get paid but it doesn't mean you won't get anything - you are building your skills and meeting potential employers when you volunteer." Edem Roberta Abbeyquaye had started during my interview with her. Through volunteering, you are exposed to diverse opportunities including developing yourself,  expanding your networking cycle and exposing yourself to business opportunities.

4. It teaches you important lessons in life and gives you the best experience ever. Through that, you are able to meet different people with different culture,  string and weak,  black and white,  the arrogant, the humble, the lovely, etcetera. You will be challenged , you will face difficulties, you will be forced to let go of the "bad" and adopt the "good". Volunteers mostly have the great personalities.

Are you a volunteer? Tell me,  what are some of the things volunteering has taught you?
