It was Friday and the final day of the fifth edition of the annual  Girls Who Love Tech Camp. Mimi and Naa Lamiley moved swiftly towards the dinning hall, teasing each other as they've always done anytime they had the opportunity to eat together since primary six school days. Dear Damsel, Taking up new challenges and going for the things that scare me most; remains the single most important thing I did last year. I may have done a lot of awesome things but if you ask me, this was the most awesome; it gave me packages I never thought existed. Last year saw me taking steps that I was scared of taking in the past. I tried things I never thought would work for me and they did work for me. I acquired new skills and discovered beautiful parts of me I never knew existed. But most importantly, it added value to my life. I don't know what scares you most or which dream you doubt you can achieve, but today, I inspire you to go for them, be great. A week ago, a friend asked why I targeted young unmarried women as my main audience in the book instead of targeting women in general, of all ages. This was my response : I believe the right stage for women to work on themselves, make things happen, lay strong foundation and lead fulfilling lives, is their damsel stage. Undoubtedly, this is the only stage that we have freedom unlimited as women. We have no husband or family duties; the only responsibility we have is creating the world we desire to be in few years from now. Far from this truth, I've come to realise that, despite all the efforts being made to empower women, we seem to get it all wrong; we forget that some things are supposed to be done before married, we misplace priorities, we just go out of the bar. Another good question from one of my male readers: If 80% of the book content is useful to unmarried men, then why is the title channeled to women? My answer : The book was written with damsels in mind so the focus is on them. Right from birth, men are empowered to be strong, hardworking and get things done because they have responsibilities that include taking care of the family. So most of them grow with that mindset, unlike women. The book is channeled to women to provide the right mindset and essentials they couldn't receive earlier but needed so much, so they can make things happen too. As humans, we meet beautiful people, we experience beautiful moments and we receive beautiful packages from life; most of which are meant to be but most of which slip out of our life because of one lie - what is meant to be will be. We often use the excuse of what is meant to be will be whenever we are too lazy to work hard or whenever all we want to do is to give up. And this is so wrong. Sometimes, you need to prove "what is meant to be" that it is really meant to be. You need to fight for it, work for it and give it beautiful reasons to stay. You don't have to cowardly back off just because of a single problem (that's supposed to test you) or because you are lazily doing other things. Don't allow great people and things to slip out of your life just like that because of little problems.
